For the second season in a row, Continental Tyre Durability Testing Outdoor and Continental Teves Product Development Aftermarket are cooperating in tyre durability tests at the Nürburgring race track. Both sides profit.

Constant driving at the limits subjects tyres and brakes to enormous stresses. The result is considerable wear and tear on brake pads and discs. ATEs own PowerDisc has been used for the tests for two years. With its special endless groove it improves braking and wear characteristics and thus decisively enhances durability. The advantages of collaboration: the developers of the special brake discs in Frankfurt are steadily supplied with test results, saving costly redundant testing. On the other hand, the use of the PowerDisc results in more consistent lap times and more uniform handling characteristics. With PowerDisc, 60 rounds instead of the previous 20 can now be run on the Nürburgring north loop without changing. This permits devoting more (expensive) time to testing since two of three brake disc and brake pad changes can be dispensed with. That reduces cost appreciably. Cooperation will be expanded next season by equipping additional vehicle models and trying out new ATE brake pads. The first preliminary tests on the Nürburgring and at the Mugello test track have been very promising.
