Powder coating protects brake shoes from corrosion

ATE brake shoes for drum and parking brakes are now supplied with powder coating, which has three clear benefits for customers:

  • Corrosion protection is improved.

  • The appearance of the brake shoe is enhanced.

  • The adhesive joint is sealed, significantly reducing corrosion under the adhesive.

Powder coating means that ATE brake shoes meet OE and OES requirements for parking brakes and even outperform the requirements for drum brakes. “ATE drum brake shoes now have a unique feature,” explains Heike Kretschmer, Product Manager Drum Brakes, Marketing: “Neither automakers nor our competitors offer powdercoated shoes for drum brakes.” ATE drum brake shoes also feature fullsurface adhesive bonding. As a result, the lining presents significantly higher shear strength than with adhesive applied in strips.

In addition, ATE brake shoes are radially ground, ensuring ideal braking performance from the first time they are operated. Powder coating is another outstanding product feature. Kretschmer: “Of course, our coated brake shoes will now be included in the ATE Topkits, so this product too will be upgraded.”
