If Continental Automotive Systems can now claim to be the international automotive industry’s leading partner, then this achievement can largely be attributed to the development of two companies - Teves and Temic - whose exemplary performance and innovative skills were brought together in 2001 under one roof as part of Continental AG. Despite their widely differing origins, the history of both companies is bound up with numerous pioneering developments and technologies, especially in the area of automotive engineering. The know-how of Teves in the field of brakes and chassis components and Temic’s specialization in electronic control units led early on to collaborative work in developing electronic braking and stabilization systems. Due to the rapid growth in the significance of electronically controlled systems in automotive engineering, the skills possessed by both companies meshed so well together that Continental’s acquisition of Temic and its merger with Teves, which had been incorporated into the Continental Group in 1998, to produce the Automotive Systems Division was an entirely logical step. On the following pages, you will find brief histories of Teves and Temic up to 2001 and the further development of the Automotive Systems Division up to the present day:
